Terry Garrett

Brother Terry Garrett Passed away on December 18th, 2009. Terry was a member of Local 44 since October of 1970. Terry was a proud and productive Ironworker who was unfortunate enough to have suffered a major injury to his back while Ironworking at the MSD facility on Guest street.

Terry never was able to continue with his career as an Ironworker. But Terry never stopped paying his dues and always kept the Ironworkers as his family. Where many people would accept their physical limitations as road blocks, Terry found other outlets in his life for his time and energy.

Terry gave of his time to local area functions in and around the Delhi are. The following was presented as part of his eulogy.

Terry Garrett spent much of his life fighting and working for others. He worked with many local organizations;

Terry worked hard for the Delhi Athletic Association. For over 15 years Terry served on the Executive Board. He served as head of the Managers Committee. Served as Vice-President and eventually became President. He even became the District 14 Coordinator where he worked hard to pull everyone involved together to accomplish each goal that was put before him As the Downtown Baseball Supervisor. Terry had to sometimes be the bearer of bad news. Terry found a passion in teaching Baseball to young kids and every Spring, Terry was somewhere teaching someone the game.

Terry had fun with whatever he did. He participated in the Delhi Skirt Game. He was a Manager and as player at times. He help to orchestrate the program also by serving as a member of the Executive Committee for 15 years.

Terry loved the Delhi Community. He was elected as Treasurer of the Delhi Citizens on Patrol organization and also held many other offices with the Delhi Civic Association. Terry and Joan were active members in the Delhi Historical Society. The attended functions and participated in countless parades.

Terry was also proud to be a member of the Delhi Park Board. Where he worked with others to brighten the community.

Terry worked with other organizations including the Federal Order of Eagles. What can be said about Terry is that he worked hard for what most of us take for granted. Consider all these things one man has done. Now consider that Terry did all these thing without being paid a single dime.

Terry was a friend to the people of Delhi, a brother to the Ironworkers, a father to Jason, Patricia and Terry Jr, a partner and husband to his wife Joan, an Uncle, a Cousin and a friend to so many more.

Mr. Delhi you will surely be missed. We thank you!

Michael J Willis
